Nathan Martin

Nathan has over 10 years of experience leading interdisciplinary teams in the creation of interactive systems. Nathan was a Research Fellow and Artist in Residence at Carnegie Mellon University for 3 years before launching DeepLocal. Martin is also founder of an internationally exhibited art group called Carbon Defense League which has a ten year history creating media art that has received mainstream attention through media outlets such as BBC, CNN, and ABC. Martin is also founder of two musical groups, a since defunct internationally touring band and an experimental sound art group. Martin has taught Art and Design at the university level for three years and was recently recognized as one of the top 40 entrepreneurs under age 40 in the country by American Venture Magzine. He has worked for clients including Palm Computing, General Dynamics and NASA. Nathan holds an MFA in electronic and time-based media from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Carl DiSalvo

Carl has 15 years of experience in the design of interactive systems for both the private and public sectors. As a senior interaction designer at MetaDesign Carl was engaged in the design of interfaces, applications, and services for Fortune 1000 clients. In 2006 Carl received his PhD in Design from Carnegie Mellon University. He was the first ever Design PhD in the United States to be wholly supported by a National Science Foundation Grant. During his graduate studies, Carl conducted research into the design of robotic systems for the home and community-oriented geographic information systems. His design work has been published in the New York Times and I.D. magazines and his scholarly research has been widely published and presented in journals and at conferences.

Beth Friel

Chief Financial Officer

Beth Friel brings to DeepLocal strategic focus and mature business judgment gained during two decades of diverse management and leadership experience with a variety of organizations in high technology, finance and consulting. Most recently as COO of a small, innovative software company, MAYA Viz, primarily developing and deploying software with the U.S. Army, Beth played a key role in preparing and leading the company through due diligence and an acquisition by General Dynamics, a large defense contractor. Prior to her tenure at MAYA Viz, Beth spent over 11 years in various consulting and management positions at Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) and Arthur Andersen. Beth’s primary expertise is in financial software systems and financial process reengineering.

Mark Nutter

Senior Software Engineer

Mark is a web/desktop applications developer with more than 25 years of programming experience in a variety of environments and languages, including C, C++, Java, XML and SQL, as well as scripting languages like Javascript, Perl and PHP. The former head of Internet Applications Development for Marconi Corporation's broadband division, he worked as an independent consultant and software author prior to signing on with DeepLocal.

David Evans

Senior Software Engineer

David is a web developer Javascript/AJAX expert, and Sun certified Java programmer. David has five years of experience in the healthcare software industry working for North American Scientific, University of Pittsburgh RODS laboratory and Health Monitoring Systems before joining DeepLocal. David, a region native, is a contributor to several open source projects, and a main contributor to the OpenRODS project for biosurveillence. In addition to software development, David is a GIS technology expert with several years of user interface and interaction design experience.

Stanley Shivell

Internet Applications Developer

Stanley is an applications developer with a decade worth of experience developing applications both online and for the enterprise. While obtaining his Bachelors Degree at the University of Pittsburgh with majors in Computer Science and Political Science, Stanley worked developing applications for a variety of organizations including the Pennsylvania State Department of Environmental Protection and VA Linux’s Linux.com website where he acted as their Support Site’s Project Manager. More recently Stanley has developed online ad sales software and developed software for major media outlets to schedule and manage television commercial sales. Stanley brings a wide variety of knowledge in database systems, and programming languages to the team.
