A popcorn-scented dongle creates the first-ever smellable mobile gaming experience.

To promote Pop Secret’s Poptopia gaming app, we created a popcorn-scented dongle that emits delicious popcorn smells when in-game actions happened. As players completed levels in the game, they could smell the sweet smell of popcorn. The prototype dongle attached to devices through the headphone jack, which emits frequencies to trigger a spritz. Basically: smell-o-vision, come to life. The Poptopia game received a large bump in downloads from iTunes when the dongle was released. Limited edition versions of the dongle were auctioned off on eBay to benefit the Red Cross. The Pop Dongle earned media coverage in CNET, AdAge, The Huffington Post, Fast Company, and more.
