An experiential installation at SoulCycle Grand Central creates light patterns based on riders’ biometrics.
Art and light both play an important role in the SoulCycle experience. To make SoulCycle’s Grand Central location—its 20th in NYC—stand out, we created a semi-permanent, experiential installation for riders and passersby alike. Built in the lobby of the studio, the installation features 20 orbs of varying sizes with built-in pulse oximeters. When touched, the orbs respond to the user’s biometrics and illuminate based on heart rate. Custom programming controls how heart rate triggers both the color and brightness of the LEDs in each orb. SoulCycle riders are invited to touch an orb before and after class to visualize the impact of their workout.
