NIKE THE ART OF TRAINING

Challenge

Nike and The Robot Co needed to translate the raw power and nuanced movements of LeBron James's training into a living, breathing artwork for Art Basel Miami. We were tasked with creating interactive visualizations that captured key phases of his athletic process: Strength, Conditioning, and Recovery.

Strategy

The exhibit featured an outdoor space with three large LED screens, offering workout classes by day and transforming into an event space by night. Our “living landscape” visuals evolved in real-time based on guest movements, captured by depth camera clusters. Built in TouchDesigner, the generative visuals created glowing, dynamic, and immersive artworks that changed the entire atmosphere.

Developing motion-tracking visualizations

"Strength" showcased interwoven muscle fibers flexing and regenerating. "Conditioning" blended fluid motion with visuals reminiscent of vascular scans and satellite floodplains. "Recovery" resembled microscopic cells with metallic hues and shape-shifting forms.

A visual journey through adjusting and improving

Throughout, we tested intensively – our team set up depth sensors and motion-tracking software in a controlled environment, simulated guest interactions, and continuously refined visual responsiveness.
